It can be tough to stay organized when you’re on vacation, whether you’re in a resort, hotel room or cruise ship cabin, there’s usually not usually as much space as you have at home – and the space can feel somewhat “cluttered” if you aren’t organized.
Vacation is supposed to be a time to relax and de-stress, but it’s hard to do that when you’re constantly looking for things. You don’t want to spend your vacation time cleaning and rearranging, after all.
Here’s 7 Out-Of-The-Box Ways to Keep Your Hotel Room Organized While on Vacation:
1. Use a Shoe Organizer
Hanging a clear-pocket shoe organizer on the back of your closet door to store your belongings is a great way to save space and stay organized while on vacation.
This is especially useful if you’re staying in a room where there aren’t many drawers or shelves. You can use the pockets to store items such as your toiletries, underwear, socks, and other small items.
And the bonus is that you can SEE them all and you’re not hunting around in each pocket with other solid color organizers.
(If you’re traveling with kids, assign the lower pockets to them to make it easier for them to help your space stay tidy!)
2. Extra Hangers for The Closet
If you’re staying anywhere on vacation, chances are there won’t be enough hangers for all of your clothes. (And if you’re on a cruise ship, there definitely won’t be!)
If you’re able to, buy or bring extra hangers with you or on vacation. If you hang up your clothes as soon as you unpack, they won’t get wrinkled and you’ll easily be able to find the clothing you’ll need.
(Space-saving hangers are great for those small closets or areas where you need to maximize your space!)
This will also help you choose outfits quickly and make it easier to repack when it’s time to go home.
3. Bring Laundry Bags
Whether you’re going to be doing any laundry on vacation or not, bring a couple pop-up mesh or fabric laundry bags with you depending on how many people are traveling. This will make it easier to keep your dirty clothes separate from your clean clothes, and it will also help prevent you from losing items that mistakenly get shoved under the bed without a dedicated space for them. It will even make packing up to leave much easier!
It’s easy to put the bags in a specific place in the room, and at the end of the night, all of the dirty clothes go in. (We put the bags right in the bottom of the closet.) Then, when you are ready to head home, place the bags inside your luggage. You’ll know exactly what needs to be washed when you get home!
4. Pack an “Out and About” Bag
If you’ll be leaving the resort or hotel during the day, pack a small bag with the essentials you’ll need: sunscreen, lip balm, hats, sunglasses, etc. Then, leave the packed bag in a dedicated spot near your door. This way you won’t have to dig through your suitcase every time you want to go out – everything will be in one place and easy to find. (And, you won’t forget anything!)
Just make sure you don’t keep your valuables in it – just in case you set it down and forget it while you’re “out and about”.
5. Have Unnecessary Items Removed from Your Room
If you have items in your room that you won’t need during your stay, such as extra pillows, blankets – or even the ice bucket or extra chair in the room, ask the staff to remove them for you. They will gladly do so!
This will clear up some extra space in your room so you can move around more easily, and it will also make it look less cluttered. You can always request these items again if you need them.
6. Pack a Power Strip
If you have multiple electronics that need to be plugged in, pack a power strip so you can easily plug them all in at once. This will also help keep all of your electronic cords from getting tangled and taking up space on the floor or counter.
Another way to organize your cords is to use small binder clips to clip them to the back of a drawer or piece of furniture. This way they’re out of the way and organized!
7. Use a Roll-Up Hanging Toiletry Bag
Toiletries can take up a lot of space, and they can be difficult to keep organized while on vacation. Use a toiletry bag or kit to store all of your toiletries in one place. This will make it easier to find what you need, and it will also help prevent spills and leaks from ruining your clothes or belongings.
Most importantly, this will help keep your bathroom countertop or sink area clean and clutter-free!
If you’re traveling with more than 1 or 2 people, it may be necessary for each person to bring their own toiletry bag to keep things organized and maximize the space in the bathroom.
BONUS TIP: Bring extra zippered plastic baggies with you when you travel! These zip baggies are great for organizing the small things you may need when you leave the room and preventing them from getting lost.
Use them for things like jewelry, loose change, charging cords, etc. Or, if you’re traveling with kids, use zip baggies to store small toys or crayons in so that they don’t get lost or make a mess in your space. The possibilities are endless!
Staying organized while on vacation doesn’t have to be difficult – use these tips to make it easy! With a little bit of planning, you can enjoy your trip and have peace of mind knowing that your things are well-taken care of.
